Notary Guidelines
$1 fee per notary signature
Signer must be physically present and sign the document in front of the notary
Document must be complete, with no blank spaces except the signature and notary section
Document should not be signed or dated ahead of time; must be signed in the presence of the notary
If a witness is required, signers should bring their own witness
Signer must bring with them acceptable, unexpired photo identification as identified below
Acceptable Forms of Photo ID (Must be unexpired)
Driver’s License or ID card from Illinois or another state
U.S. or Foreign Passport (does not include Passbook)
U.S. Military card that has a signature and picture
ID card issued by the INS that has a signature and picture
Notary Staff are unable to notarize the following types of documents
Real estate transactions
Government Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification
Documents recorded by the County (e.g. birth certificates, marriage certificates, death certificates)
