Wireless Internet Access

   


Patrons with wireless access capabilities on their own equipment, such as laptops, PDAs, etc. are welcome to use the Internet through the library. This access option is open to patrons of all ages; parents or guardians of children under the age of 18 are responsible for supervising and gaurenteeing their child's proper and safe use of the Internet. No registration of sign up is required. Use of the Library's wireless access points constitutes acceptance of our Internet Access Policy.

The Library provides NO filtering or virus protection on its wireless Internet access points for patrons. The Library assumes no responsibility for damage caused to patrons' equipment (hardware or software).Patrons are responsible for configuring their equipment to access the Library's wireless Internet access points. Library staff will only be able to provide a network address or name to the patron.

The Library staff offers basic assistance on using the internet, as well as the online catalog, and other databases, but cannot offer in depth training. The reference staff is always available to assist patrons with locating books, periodicals, and other materials about the internet. It is also possible for staff to ecaluate or judge the quality or merits of every site that users may access.

The Library is 802.11b compatible.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • A laptop or other Wi-Fi enabled device.
  • Your mobile device configured to use the Library's Internet connection.

Set your wireless device software using the following configuration:

  • MODE: Infrastructure (the connection method)
  • SSID: FPLPublic (the name of the wireless network)
  • WEP: disabled (disables Wired Equivalent Privacy)
  • IP or network settings: DHCP enabled or Obtain IP Address Automatically.

Security:

Wi-Fi poses the same risks to your personal information that a wired network poses, as well as some new risks. You may not wish to submit credit card information while using wireless. All users should have updated virus protection software on their computers. You may want to consider using a personal firewall.

Printing:

You cannot print to a Frankfort Public Library printer from a wireless connection.

Frankfort Public Library staff cannot provide technical support for patrons using their own devices. Please refer to your owner's manual or other support services offered by your device manufacturer.
