Teens - Volunteer
Teens in grades 6 and up are welcome to volunteer at the library. We have an active Teen Advisory Board (TAB), which meets once a month, and the group is always welcoming new members. APPLY FOR TAB HERE.
What does TAB do?
Lots of things! In general, they help with children's and teen programming at the library. Specifically, they have planned and performed puppet shows for teens, been actors in our annual live theater event (Fairy Tale Trail), given out prizes for our summer reading program, written book reviews for the teen book review binder, decorated the teen space, and planned a lock-in for the library. They also do a variety of other jobs for the library, such as stuffing bags for Library Card Sign Up month (September!), cutting out bookmarks for the teen area, craft preparation for our storytimes, and much much more.
When does TAB meet?
TAB meets on the third Monday of each month from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. (unless otherwise noted). The TAB officers have a mandatory meeting at 4 p.m. the day of the Monday meeting. We also meet one Saturday a month, usually the first Saturday of the month.
Where does TAB meet?
In the Frankfort Public Library District's meeting room.
Can I still volunteer at the library if I don't join TAB?
The TAB group is the only way to get community service hours through the library for teens, but we will offer additional community service hours to TAB members at each TAB meeting.
How do I join TAB?
Grab an application from the Youth Services desk! Or download the application and bring the completed form in to the Youth Services desk.
I'm over 18, but would still like to volunteer at the library. Can I join TAB?
No, TAB is strictly for grades 6-12. But adults seeking volunteer opportunities at the library should look at joining the Friends of the Library; they are also always looking for new members.
I have court-ordered volunteer hours that I need. Can I get community service hours at the library?
Unfortunately, we cannot accept court-ordered volunteers.
We love our volunteers and truly appreciate their help. Thank you to all the great volunteers out there who help the library be even better than it is! If you are interested in volunteering at the library and have more questions, please contact the Youth Services department of the library at 815-469-2423 ext. 128.
